Over 175 disabled adults are involved each year
in our Direct Employment Program at our manufacturing/training
facility in Pasadena, California. Through this program Foothill's
clients manufacture and package high quality paper punches
in addition to providing a variety of other manufacturing
, mailing and packaging services to local companies . Foothill
competes with other for-profit companies for work contracts,
and all services are provided using a combination of non-disabled
staff and our disabled clients. These work contracts
enable Foothill staff members to provide clients with individual
training, mentoring, and job coaching while clients learn
important socio-cultural skills that translate far beyond
the workplace.
Our Supported Employment Program
allows clients who have acquired higher-level skills in our
Direct Employment Program to take on more challenging tasks
with greater independence in the community. The Supported Employment Program serves
approximately 50 individuals each year, placing approximately
15 individuals annually. Foothill's partnerships with
local employers allow our clients a sense of upward mobility
that is rare in vocational rehabilitation. Our job developer
seeks employment opportunities and cultivates corporate partnerships
that enable Foothill to place clients in appropriate, meaningful
employment situations. Clients receive wages and benefits
directly from their employer and experience a welcoming sense
of inclusion. In return, Foothill job coaches work on
site with both clients and employers to provide on-going support
services and maximize the client's mastery of new skills. |
