About
Us
OUR MISSION
Foothill Vocational Opportunities maximizes the personal
and economic potential of disabled individuals by creating
meaningful employment opportunities.
Foothill provides our clients and their families with
the tools they need to live fuller, richer lives, bringing
a sense of inclusion and dignity to a chronically marginalized
and underserved group of people. |
OUR HISTORY
In 1965 Pasadena Civitan Club and other
concerned members of the community who felt strongly about
the lack of vocational opportunities for the disabled in
Los Angeles County, founded Foothill Vocational Opportunities. These
individuals began with little more than a mission to maximize
the personal growth and economic independence of disabled
adults.
Foothill has since grown into a multi-service organization
providing comprehensive training, individual employment counseling
and job placements to serve the vocational and case management
needs of more than 200 clients each year. In 2002, Foothill
completed our At the Crossroads capital campaign,
to expand our facility and modernize and upgrade our equipment
to provide our clients with diverse real-world vocational training
opportunities unmatched in the area. Foothill is now
the largest employer of developmentally disabled individuals
in Pasadena, and the single largest private employer in Northwest
Pasadena, enhancing the economic development of this deeply
impoverished area of the city. Foothill maintains accreditation
status with the National Commission on Accreditation
of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and has received
their highest rating, a three-year accreditation, for the last
eighteen years. Foothill Vocational Opportunities celebrates
our fortieth anniversary in 2005. |
